A JOYFUL NOISE - CHOIR WORKSHOPS
Workshop I, July 14 – 18 Workshop II, July 21 – 25
About the Workshop |
 |
You do not need any previous choral/singing experience to enjoy A Joyful Noise summer workshop. Beginners as well as experienced choir singers are welcome. The focus of the workshop is to build musical confidence and choral skills. During the rehearsals the participants will learn about the voice and how it works and also some music theory. The repertoire will be from different periods and we will taste a variety of languages and musical styles.
Workshop I has an enhanced education component and the participants will have the opportunity to receive individual as well as group instructions.
During Workshop II, the participants are preparing for a choral concert that will be presented at St: Andrews United Church, one of Kaslos heritage buildings.
A typical day during the workshop will start at 8:45 with breakfast in the Church Hall. At 9:30 we start the singing, breaking for lunch at noon. At 2:00 the participants are free to explore Kaslo and its surroundings. You can golf, go mountain biking, cave diving, take a dip in the lake or in a near by hot spring. There are also opportunities to continue the learning with voice lessons and sight reading classes.
In the evening we will meet again to socialize and maybe sing a bit more………..
On Friday evening the week will culminate in a public concert and a post concert reception.

About the Instructors |
 |
Eva Bostrand and Robert Casgrain have worked together in choir rehearsals, music camps and master classes for over twenty years. Both instructors enjoy the process of teaching and delight in the success of their students.
Eva Bostrand , M Mus. has her voice studio in Edmonton, Alberta. She is teaching professional singers, voice/music teachers, college students (at Concordia University College), adult amateurs and people that "can’t carry a tune in a bucket". What all her students have in common is that they are eager to learn more, regardless of what level they are currently at.
Before coming to Canada, Ms. Bostrand was a member of the Swedish Radio Chamber Choir. In working with A Joyful Noise, many of her different skills and interests come together in one project; to give singers and non-singers alike, the opportunity to gain confidence through music and experience all the joys of singing in a choir.
Robert Casgrain , M Mus. is a piano teacher and accompanist in Edmonton, Alberta. His musical training and love for choral music, started when he at age 7, joined the Prince Albert Boys choir. He started piano lessons at the same time and soon became the choir’s accompanist. After leaving Prince Albert, Bob continued his studies at the UofA in Edmonton and at the Hochschule for Musik in Wienna.
When he is not busy at the piano, Bob can be found outdoors. Hiking, mountain biking and stargazing has taken him to many exotic places around the globe. Bob loves Kaslo!

All the participants are curious and looking forward to five days of learning about music in general and particularly about singing. Among the singers you will find;
- non singers who would like to explore their voices in a supportive environment.
- avid choir singers who just can't stop for the summer and are looking forward to meeting new people and learning new songs.
- spouses and parents of avid choir singers, who would like to see what choir singing is all about.
- people who sing around the house but never have tried to do it in a choir
As well as anyone else who finds the idea of spending five days in beautiful Kaslo, doing nothing but singing, enjoying the nature and meeting friendly people, appealing.
